Praise be to the Lord, for He has heard my cry for mercy. The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and He helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise Him. Psalms 28:6-7 NIV
As I read this passage I thought to myself, how hard praising God could be for people going through tough times during the Thanksgiving holiday. But then I read the passage again and saw how it reminds us that “He has heard my cry for mercy.” What does that mean? It means hard times don’t last forever. Everything passes. Life hits us hard, like a sucker punch in the gut, but we have to gradually catch our breath, gather our strength, stand up, pull our shoulders back, hold our head high, and continue to walk forward. This is not to say what you are going through is not happening but to realize that, “The Lord is my (your) strength and my (your) shield; my (your) heart trusts in Him, and He helps me (you).” Think of the times you were in a bind and by some chance you were in the clear (a paid bill, your health was better, your circumstance suddenly changed, or a relationship was restored). All of a sudden you’re happy again and maybe have a sigh of relief saying, “Thank God!” In that sigh of relief you just said, “My (your) heart leaps for joy, and with my (your) song I (you) praise Him.”
What am I saying… God sees you and He hears your prayers. He’s the One who will give you strength when you need it, protect you like a shield when someone is doing you wrong, and He will help you as long as you trust in Him. The journey sometimes doesn’t look or feel as we planned or expected it to be. However, when you look back on your life you realize that things happen for a reason to protect you or to bless you. Thank God for the little things that have positively changed your life and thank Him for bringing you out of those dark times.
Keep your chin up! God loves you, He cherishes you, He sees you, He hears you, and He is protecting you. Keep the faith and know, that in time, all things will work out for your good!
Remember, you are fearfully and wonderfully made in His image! ❤ That’s why He loves you so much. I hope you have a great Thanksgiving holiday!
Prayer: Dear God, thank you for loving me so much. Thank you for seeing me, hearing my prayers, knowing the desires of my heart, and for your protection. I trust in You; that all things will work out for my good. In Jesus name, amen.
